Urbanisation fuels demand for elevator & escalator making India number two in market share

India’s leading exhibition for elevators and escalators IEE Expo 2018 commences today with participants from 10 countries. Honourable Revenue Minister Shri Chandrakant Dada Patil visits; encourages technology advancements in infrastructure

If the overwhelming response to the latest edition of International Elevator & Escalator Expo (IEE Expo) 2018, organised by Messe Frankfurt Trade Fairs India is an indication, it is no wonder that the Indian market for Elevator & Escalators is pegged second largest in the world.

The ongoing IEE expo at Mumbai’s Bombay Exhibition Centre was inaugurated today. All the leading players including AVCAM, CREESTA, Fujitec, Fermator, Gefran, Hitachi, Mas Industries, Montanari, Monteferro, Otis, Schmersal, Wittur have come together for this key business event. The trade fair brings 170 companies from 10 including India, China, Germany, Japan, Italy, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Turkey, the UK, and the USA eyeing the growth prospects in Indian market.

Being the leading exhibition for this sector, IEE Expo 2018 was inaugurated by an esteemed panel of association heads and industry leaders including:

Talking about the acquisition and advancements in this sector, Mr Wolfgang Marzin, President and CEO, Messe Frankfurt GmbH said: “Elevators and escalators have become a prerequisite to urban development and its significance is increasing with smart cities and vertical real-estate growth globally. Also addressing the delegates and media present was Mr Ramesh Nair, CEO & Country Head, JLL India. “Major demand is expected to come from residential and new commercial concepts like co-working spaces. By 2022, 20 percent of overall demand is expected from co-working spaces. For residential space there’s a big opportunity going forward in terms of affordable housing with a demand of 10 million apartments per year. He further added, the RERA act will bring in transparency in the sector which in turn will bring in FDI”, he added.

Honourable Cabinet Minister of Revenue Relief and Rehabilitation and Public Works Govt. Of Maharashtra, Shri Chandrakantdada Patil also made his presence felt at this high prospect show. “Maharashtra is the best place for infrastructure. A platform like the International Elevator and Escalator Expo showcasing advanced technology can take this industry to the next level”.

International interest was also equally evident within the sector as the fair marked a 20 percent increase in international participation this year. The highlights of IEE Expo 2018 are its impressive line-up of premium seminars by some of the major industry bodies in the sector, series of one-on-one interactions about safety aspects with experts from Government of Maharashtra and Bureau of Indian Standard, and a panel discussion signifying interdisciplinary co-ordination in elevators for fire-fighting emergency evacuation, planning and design of tall buildings. This discussion held today, was presided over by Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat and Chief Fire Officers.

The list of highlights continues with workshops on revisions in National Building Code of India (NBC 2016). The ‘All India Electrical Inspectors Conclave’ at IEE Expo has also brought together electrical inspectors from Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Rajasthan, Kerela, New Delhi, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Karnataka and Gujarat and a congregation of eminent builders from Maharashtra Chamber of Housing Industry (CREDAI MCHI) for the three day fair.
